MONTGOMERY’S HISTORICALLY BLACK COMMUNITIES … About 40 communities in Montgomery County that were settled by freed slaves in the 19th century were recognized on Feb. 28 by the Montgomery County Council as part of the County’s celebration of National Black History Month. Individuals who trace their family’s heritages to the Lyttonsville, Sandy Spring, Lincoln Park, Sugarland, Jerusalem, Tobytown, Stewartown, Scotland and Ken-Gar were among those recognized.
