MINORITY HEALTH MONTH... With the commitment that every American should have the opportunity to live a healthier, the Montgomery County Council on April 24 presented a proclamation in recognition of National Minority Health Month. Research as shown that members of some minority groups may suffer substantially more health problems and expect to live 20 years less than others because of where they live, their race, their education and their income. The members of the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee—George Leventhal (fourth from left), Craig Rice (fifth from left) and Nancy Navarro (sixth from left)—presented the proclamation. Those at the ceremonies included Ava Jackson of the African American Health Program; Cesar Palacios and Sonia Moro of the Latino Health Steering Committee; and Sam Mukherjee, Perry Chan and Jamie Weng of the Asian American Health Initiative Committee.
