HALEY STREAKS LIKE A COMET... Wootton High School senior Haley Skarupa (speaking), who started playing on her high school boys hockey team as a freshman and who at age 15 became one of the youngest players ever to be named to the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 team, was honored by the Montgomery County Council on May 15 as she prepares to graduate and head to play for Boston College. She has played on two teams that won the silver medals at International Hockey Federation Under-18 World Championships, including this year’s tournament in the Czech Republic when she scored a record-breaking 11 goals. At the ceremonies in Rockville, were, left to right: Haley’s father, Tony; her brother, Dylan; Wootton Principal Michael Doran; Haley’s mother, Penny; Kush Sidhu, who coaches Haley’s travel team, the Washington Pride; and Councilmember Phil Andrews, who presented a proclamation on behalf of the Council.
