SUMMER LUNCH EXPANDS … Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin joined other County leaders and community members on June 26 at Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Takoma Park to highlight the importance of continuing the free Montgomery County Public Schools Summer Food program. The program, which has expanded significantly since Councilmember Ervin in 2007 urged the program be increased and improved, will have 12 free walk-in lunch sites this summer—an increase from six last year. Over the past five years, the number of children in the program has increased by approximately 30 percent. The Summer Food Program is aimed at increasing the number of eligible children who have healthy food options during the summer. Also at the event were Rolling Terrace Principal Jennifer Connors, left, and Montgomery County Board of Education Vice President Christopher Barclay.
