Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin, who chairs the Council’s Education Committee, and Maryland State Delegate Susan Lee joined students as they ate in the cafeteria at Roscoe Nix Elementary School in Silver Spring on Dec. 19. Earlier, Councilmember Ervin and Delegate Lee were part of a coalition of elected officials and representatives from the Share Our Strength organization who highlighted the importance of the Meals for Achievement universal breakfast program that has been implemented at some schools statewide. The event stressed the need for additional funding to significantly increase the number of schools that could host breakfast programs for students from low-income families.
