April 1, 2013

TO:            Isiah Leggett
                 County Executive

FROM:      Nancy Navarro, Council President
                 Roger Berliner, Chair, T&E Committee

SUBJECT: Silver Spring Transit Center Briefings

We request that you or your staff provide the Council regular briefings on the progress of the Silver Spring Transit Center. These briefings will help the Council keep the public informed and ensure public accountability for the project moving forward. We would like to schedule the first briefing for the Council Session on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, with subsequent regular briefings as the Council requires.

These briefings will focus on the County’s plan to get a safe and reliable Transit Center open to the public as quickly as possible. They will not address financial responsibility for the repairs, which may be subject to litigation, but rather will provide oversight and transparency for the plan to rehabilitate and complete the Transit Center.
