The Montgomery County Council’s Health and Human Services Committee at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, will begin its review of the Fiscal Year 2014 operating budget request of the County’s Department of Health and Human Services. The review is part of the Council’s examination of the recommended budget presented by County Executive Isiah Leggett.

In April and May, the Council will review the Executive’s recommended budget as it works toward adopting the FY14 County operating budget in late May. The budget will go into effect on July 1.

The Health and Human Services Committee, which is chaired by George Leventhal and includes Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Craig Rice, will meet in the Third Floor Conference Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The meeting will be streamed live through the County Web site at www.montgomerycountymd.gov. It also will be broadcast at a later time to be determined by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon).

The County Executive recommended that the Department of Health and Human Services receive a budget of $253.8 million in FY14. This is an increase of $1.5 million over the FY13 approved budget (or 0.6 percent).

At 9:30 a.m. in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room, the Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee, which is chaired by Roger Berliner and includes Councilmembers Nancy Floreen and Hans Riemer, will meet for a worksession on a number of sidewalk and road improvement projects that are recommended for construction with supplemental appropriations and amendments to the County’s Capital Improvements Program.

At 2 p.m. in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room, the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee, which is chaired by Council President Navarro and includes Councilmembers Riemer and Valerie Ervin, will review the budget request of the Board of Elections. The County Executive recommended funding for five early voting centers for the 2014 elections.
