The Montgomery County Council’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee and its Government Operations and Fiscal Policy (GO) Committee will meet jointly at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, for a worksession on the County government employee wellness strategic plan.

The HHS Committee, which is chaired by George Leventhal and includes Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Craig Rice, and the GO Committee, which is chaired by Councilmember Navarro and includes Councilmembers Cherri Branson and Hans Riemer, will meet in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The meeting will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon). The broadcast also will be streamed through the County Web site at:

The joint HHS and GO committee will be briefed on the strategic plan for "MCG Vitality”-- the County Government's employee wellness program. The official kick-off for MCG Vitality is June 23, but, as the joint committee was informed in March, efforts are already underway with specific initiatives in Department of Transportation’s Ride-On Program and in the Department of Liquor Control.

The strategic plan includes an emphasis on implementing a data-driven initiative. The plan emphasizes the need for analysis of population-wide observations and an ongoing assessment of member needs in order to identify gaps in program. During the presentation, information will be provided on 222 wellness program participants in the RideOn program and 61 participants in the Department of Liquor Control program. The wellness program provides information about blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index.

At 11 a.m. in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room, the GO Committee will review the resolution to approve the Tax Supported Fiscal Plan Summary for the Fiscal Years 2015-20 Public Services Program. On June 10, the Council introduced a resolution to approve the program, based on the fiscal decisions it made on May 22. The Council is scheduled to act on the resolution on June 17.
