Councilmember Phil Andrews to Address ‘Students Oppose Smoking’ Forum

At 1 p.m. Today at Dave and Buster’s in North Bethesda, County Councilmember Will Speak at Rally to ‘Kick Ash’

ROCKVILLE, Md., October 19, 2007 – Montgomery County Councilmember Phil Andrews will address today’s forum of “Students Oppose Smoking” at Dave and Buster’s in White Flint Mall in North Bethesda. The “Kick Ash Forum,” whose topics will include smoking problems and policies on some Montgomery County Public Schools campuses, is scheduled to run from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. Councilmember Andrews is scheduled to speak about 1 p.m.

Students Oppose Smoking (S.O.S.) is a county-wide student-led effort designed to try to help, rather than punish, young smokers.

Councilmember Andrews was the chief advocate of legislation that banned smoking in all Montgomery County restaurants, legislation that preceded similar measures eventually adopted by many other Washington area jurisdictions. Last week marked the fourth anniversary of Montgomery County restaurant smoking ban.

Another speaker on today’s agenda is Audrey Levandowski of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
