Montgomery County Council Vice President Craig Rice, who represents District 2 that includes much of the Upcounty area, will meet with residents starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Rocky Hill Middle School to provide updates on retail development in Clarksburg. The meeting will address Clarksburg Village, Clarksburg Town Center and the proposed outlet malls.
Rocky Hill Middle School is located at 22401 Brick Haven Way in Clarksburg, adjacent to Route 355. Among those expected to attend the meeting are representatives of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and representatives of some companies involved with retail development in Clarksburg.
Council Vice President Rice will update the progress of the Clarksburg Village retail center, which will include the first grocery store in Clarksburg. He sponsored the legislation that allowed the center to be built on an expedited basis, according to the requests of residents. That center will open later this year.
He also will discuss the status of the long-delayed Clarksburg Town Center retail center.
Part of the meeting will be devoted to explaining the processes involved with two proposals to build outlet malls on two different properties in Clarksburg.
“Clarksburg continues to grow and evolve as a place where many people will want to live, and for those residents, we are working quickly to provide the basic services they need and deserve,” said Council Vice President Rice. “However, as the Washington Region continues to expand beyond the Beltway, the Upcounty area, once thought only to be a bedroom community, is now being looked at as a regional commercial hub. It is exciting that major developers see the viability of Clarksburg in this manner and to think of the jobs that may be placed close to home. But in the same light, we must move carefully to make sure we do this right, and as with other decisions we’ve made regarding Clarksburg, will do so with the collaboration of its residents.”
