 Update on five road maintenance projects

 

Several new road maintenance projects by the Division of Highway Services are beginning in local subdivisions.

Paving projects, in which crews will resurface the local streets with hot mix asphalt:

* Watch for a future announcement of upcoming projects.

Permanent patching projects, in which crews make structural, permanent patches to the road, a cost effective interim solution to maintain roadway structural integrity based upon current funding allocations:

* Indian Spring community in Silver Spring will receive permanent patching work on its streets starting during June. The project should be completed within approximately three to four weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Pavement preservation projects, in which crews will be undertaking pavement preservation work. This will entail full depth patching of pavement deteriorations, crack sealing, and application of a micro resurfacing material or an asphalt emulsion binder will be sprayed onto the pavement followed by an application of stone aggregate. The chipseal resurfacing is then compacted by rollers. Within 7-10 days the road will be swept to remove surface dust and residual stones. Roadway markings are replaced shortly after resurfacing operations.

* Goshen Estates subdivision in the Gaithersburg East service area will receive pavement preservation work on its streets starting during June. The project should be completed within approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Resurfacing is scheduled to take place in the summer/fall of this year.

* Kings Valley Manor subdivision in the Damascus service area will receive pavement preservation work on its streets starting during June. The project should be completed within approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Resurfacing is scheduled to take place in the summer/fall of this year.

* Wexford subdivision in the Gaithersburg East service area will receive pavement preservation work on its streets starting during June. The project should be completed within approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Resurfacing is scheduled to take place in the summer/fall of this year.

* Wilderness Walk subdivision in the Damascus service area will receive pavement preservation work on its streets starting during June. The project should be completed within approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Resurfacing is scheduled to take place in the summer/fall of this year.

Concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk repairs, in which crews will be replacing defection sections of curbs or sidewalks to ensure structural integrity, proper drainage, and avoidance of tripping hazards. Under this operation, residents will be able to take advantage of discounts for concrete work under the driveway apron and lead walk repair program. Upcoming projects include:
