Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) Announces Changes in Hours and Fees

Effective Tuesday, July 6, Montgomery County Public Libraries will institute the new hours brought about by cuts to the FY2011 Operating Budget.

Although the changes represent an overall reduction in library hours, the new schedule will provide consistent hours of operation at library branches throughout the system and extend hours on Friday and Saturday evenings until 6 p.m. The hours at Noyes Library for Young Children Library will remain unchanged.

MCPL branches will be open according to the following schedule:

Bethesda, Germantown, Quince Orchard, Rockville, Wheaton

Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Davis, Marilyn J. Praisner, Olney, Potomac

Monday, Tuesday, 1 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Aspen Hill, Chevy Chase, Damascus, Silver Spring, White Oak

Monday, Wednesday, 1 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. 
 
Kensington Park, Little Falls, Long Branch, Twinbrook

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, 1 – 8 p.m.

Poolesville Library

Monday - Wednesday, 1 -- 8 p.m, Thursday - Saturday, 10 a.m. -- 5 p.m.

Noyes Library for Young Children

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Also, beginning in late summer, the following libraries will be open on Sundays year-round from 1-5 p.m. (except on certain major holiday weekends): Bethesda, Germantown, Marilyn J. Praisner, Rockville, Silver Spring and Wheaton.

Changes in policy and fees

The following changes in policies and fees will also take effect July 6:

• The number of holds a customer can place will be limited to 15 (currently 35) per library card. This includes Interlibrary Loan requests.

• Library accounts of customers who owe more than $25 (currently $15) will be blocked; customers will not be able to place holds, check out items or renew items.

• A $2 replacement fee for lost or stolen library cards has been reinstated.
