In celebration of National Poetry Month (April), Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) invites residents to compose a poem from book and/or movie titles, take a picture of the poem/titles and submit it to MCPL’s Twitter or Facebook sites.
On Twitter, mention libraries @MCPL Libraries, hashtag #NPM13. On Facebook, post a direct message. The poems may appear on MCPL’s Twitter or Facebook pages. Participants will be entered in a drawing to win two tickets, donated by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc., to see Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco on May 17.
All poems must be submitted by April 30.
“We felt this would be an interactive, fun way to have residents appreciate and celebrate poetry by using their own creativity to come up with a short poem from titles,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “The possibilities are endless,” she added.

Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.
