 Leggett Distributes Reusable Bags

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett distributed several hundred reusable bags to shoppers at the Hillandale Safeway to help them become accustomed to the County’s new Bag Law, which began January 1.   Volunteers also distributed bags at other locations in Rockville, Wheaton, Bethesda and Germantown.  Revenues collected from the law will be directed to the Water Quality Protection Fund, which pays for stormwater management, watershed restoration and litter clean-up. Plastic bags are one of the top four items found in County streams and stormwater controls. The County spends approximately $3 million annually for litter prevention and clean-up programs.  See the Carryout Bag Law webpage.
