Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will celebrate the five-year anniversary of his December 2007 Pedestrian Safety Initiative, which for the first time provided a blueprint for action to improve pedestrian safety based on measurable strategies. Since 2009 when the Initiative was funded, pedestrian fatalities and collisions have decreased and the most severe collisions, those where pedestrians are incapacitated or killed, have declined.
Joining Leggett will be County Councilmember Valerie Ervin, Department of Transportation Director Art Holmes, Police Chief J. Thomas Manger, Fire Chief Richard Bowers, Public Information Office Director Patrick Lacefield, Montgomery County Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee Chair Erwin Mack, Montgomery Blair High School Principal Renay Johnson and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Master Planner Larry Cole.
