The Power of One Campaign Urges Residents to Get Involved in Preventing Child Abuse

Tuesday, April 2, 2013; 9 a.m.

Executive Office Building Entrance, Outdoor Entrance Circle, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville

County Executive Isiah Leggett will be joined by County Councilmember Craig Rice, Department of Health and Human Services Director Uma Ahluwalia, staff from Child Welfare Services, foster parents and others to kick off the County’s recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Surrounded by a garden of blue pinwheels, Leggett will kick off the “Power of One” campaign, urging residents to get involved in preventing child abuse.

The blue pinwheels are part of a national campaign, “Pinwheels for Prevention.” Blue is the color designated for child abuse and the pinwheels serve as a reminder of childhood and the bright futures that all children deserve. The campaign is sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse, a national organization.
