Leggett to Join Conservation Montgomery for National Arbor Day Tree Planting

Will Encourage Passage of his Tree Canopy Conservation Law

Friday, April 26, 2013; 11 a.m.

Bethesda Library, 7400 Arlington Road, Bethesda; Hampden Lane, Overlooking Caroline Freeland Park

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will celebrate National Arbor Day with a tree planting at the Bethesda Library. The event was initiated by Arlene Bruhn, Conservation Montgomery board member. The Bethesda Garden Club will provide valuable assistance by watering the newly planted trees. Bethesda-Chevy Chase high school students have been invited to support the watering effort during the hot summer months.

Leggett will take the opportunity to encourage the County Council to pass his Bill 35-12, the Trees and Tree Canopy Conservation Law. The bill proposes a way to fund replacement of trees lost to development.

Joining Leggett will be Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner.

Note to Editors: Event participants will plant a yellowwood tree and a white dogwood tree.
