County and City of Rockville Human Rights Commissions to Hold Public Forum on Race Relations

The Montgomery County and City of Rockville Human Rights commissions will host a public discussion featuring a diverse group of community relations experts to explore racial, ethnic and community relations in Montgomery County. The forum, called “Do you think a Trayvon Martin-type incident could occur in Montgomery County?” will take place on Saturday, February 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Executive Office Building, lobby level auditorium, 101 Monroe St., Rockville.

Moderated by Dr. Sheryl Brissett Chapman, executive director for the National Center for Children and Families, the forum will give participants an opportunity to contribute to a dialogue on the topic of race and community relations. The Trayvon Martin incident that took place two years ago in Sanford, Florida, will provide a starting point for the conversation, challenging participants to consider what they would do in a similar situation.

For more information about the forum, call James Stowe, director of the Office of Human Rights, at 240-777-8490.
