Montgomery Designated as “Tech Savvy” County; Only One Named in Maryland, One of Only Four in USA

The Public Technology Institute (PTI) has designated Montgomery County as a Tech Savvy County in 2014. Montgomery County is one of only four local governments in the nation -- and the only County in Maryland -- to be designated as a Tech Savvy jurisdiction during 2014.

In recognizing Montgomery County with this award, PTI assessed the County’s performance in several areas, including: Ethics, Performance Management, Communication and Collaboration, Professional Development, Strategic Planning, Cybersecurity; Commitment to Green Technology; Innovation and Adherence to Standards of Excellence.

“As in so many other categories, Montgomery County is a leader among local governments,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished – and will accomplish in the future.”

“We are deeply honored to be recognized by the Public Technology Institute as a Tech Savvy County,” said Harash (Sonny) Segal, chief Information Officer for Montgomery County. “We will strive to continue to provide outstanding online services and information to our residents and employees.”

PTI is a national technology organization created by and for cities and counties. The organization identifies opportunities for technology research, shares best practices, offers consultancies and pilot demonstrations, and promotes technology development initiatives. PTI’s Local Government Tech Savvy Designation Award Program recognizes PTI-member local governments that meet a list of criterions where technology is used to address issues, current challenges and future opportunities across the enterprise.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for Montgomery County as a first class local government that creates technology programs that serves its constituents internally and externally,” said PTI Executive Director Alan R. Shark. “PTI congratulates Montgomery County for its hard work and organizational vision, leadership and commitment to the use of technology.”
