For the third consecutive year, Montgomery County government’s web site has been named “Top Pick” by MuniNetGuide.com – an online guide and directory to web sites for state, county and local governments. The County’s site at http://montgomerycountymd.gov consolidates a wide variety of information with interactive services to make government more accessible to the people it serves.
“It is an honor to be recognized as a ‘Top Pick’ for the third straight year by MuniNet – one of the leading web sites in the nation for local government content on the Internet,” said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan. “We have strived to make our programs and services more accessible to the people we serve, and I hope our residents – and others – will continue to take advantage of the information available there.”
For the past six years, MuniNet Guide has highlighted web sites that stand out among their peers and serve four basic functions: to inform, provide service, offer opportunities for two-way communication, and increase government accountability. To qualify as a “Top Pick,” local government web sites must go beyond the basics and provide innovative and well-organized sites for its users.
Information and services currently found on Montgomery County’s web site include the opportunity to: register for recreation classes, participate in book discussions, get bus and rail route information, purchase bus and rail fares, register bicycles, and renew library books and other materials.
In addition, online Permitting Services allow residents to check their application status, schedule inspections, cancel a scheduled inspection, check their plan review, and search for permits. The site also offers online information about construction permits and licenses, including inspections, plan review, building applications and permits, electrical permits, electrical licenses, use and occupancy permits, and zoning enforcement.
For residents who don’t have internet access at home, the County web site is accessible from all Montgomery County public libraries. Each library has computers available for use free of charge.
