Recreation Department Invites High School Students to Audition for Upcoming Talent Show

High school students interested in participating in an upcoming teen talent show are invited to auditions on Monday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 14, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the East County Community Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring. The free talent show will be held on Friday, April 13, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the community center.

The Teen Escape Club Youth Café, founded in 2010, provides a safe recreational “hangout” for teens. The club is primarily comprised of students from Blake, Paint Branch and Springbrook high schools but is open to all Montgomery County high school-aged youth. The teens chose the name “Escape” to represent an opportunity to escape into positive youth engagement through the arts.

The club, a cooperative program between Montgomery County Recreation and Montgomery County Public Schools, was first proposed by the Eastern Area Youth Advisory Committee. Councilmember Nancy Navarro was involved in the program’s inception and continues to support the program.

Auditions are open to any Montgomery County high school-aged youth. Students interested in auditioning should call 240-777-4980 to schedule an audition time. Walk-in auditions may be available if there are unfilled audition times. Participants in the talent show will perform for prizes.

For more information and to sign up for the audition, call Portia Scott at 240-777-4980 or email Portia.Scott@montgomerycountymd.gov.
