Montgomery County Recreation is joining the Recreation departments of the cities of Rockville and Gaithersburg to host a free Water Safety Day event on Friday, May 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, 355 Martins Lane.
“Every year, children and adults suffer preventable accidents at local pools,” said County Executive Isiah Leggett. “Keeping our residents safe is one of our greatest priorities and I encourage everyone to take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from unnecessary injury.”
The free event will include information stations that provide resources on a variety of topics, including swim level testing, the importance of personal flotation devices, how to safely reach and assist someone struggling in the water and the importance of sunscreen to prevent serious skin damage.
Participants at the event will receive a pool safety passport that can be stamped at each safety station. Individuals who collect five or more stamps on their passport will earn a free day swim pass for the Rockville pool, or any City of Gaithersburg or County pool.
The outdoor pool at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center will be closed to the public for swimming during the water safety event. Participants who are interested in swim level testing should bring a swimsuit.
