Montgomery County Hosts Ramadan Iftar Celebration

The public is invited to attend a celebration of Ramadan this evening, Tuesday, August 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Executive Office Building Auditorium, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville. The event is co-hosted by the County Executive’s Office of Community Partnerships, the Montgomery County Muslim Council and the Montgomery County Muslim Foundation.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar when Muslims fast and observe other restraints during daylight hours. It is also a time of worship and contemplation when Muslims concentrate on their faith. This year, the month of Ramadan began on July 19 and ends on August 19. More than one billion Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Muslim community leaders will give remarks at the celebration. Leggett will issue a proclamation honoring the month of Ramadan. There will be a short presentation on Ramadan and breaking of the fast at sundown when dinner will be served.

This is an educational program to introduce an important cultural heritage shared by many residents of Montgomery County. The event is free and open to the public.
