Volunteers Needed for Department of Environmental Protection Earth Day Cleanup

Volunteers are needed to participate in an Earth Day cleanup hosted by the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in partnership with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Department of Parks and the local watershed group Eyes of Paint Branch. This event is part of the Anacostia Watershed Society’s Earth Day Cleanup celebration held throughout the Anacostia watershed.

The cleanup will be held on April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon in the White Oak neighborhood of Silver Spring. DEP staff will greet volunteers at the corner of Stewart Lane and Lockwood Drive.

Volunteers will assist with trash removal projects. Representatives of the Bridgestone America’s Spent Tire Community Clean-up Program will assist by hauling tires from the site.

All participants must register prior to the event and be 14 years of age or older to participate. Public school students who volunteer will be eligible to earn Student Service Learning hours. Contact Leslie Wilcox at leslie.wilcox@montgomerycountymd.gov or 240-777-7780 for more information or to register.

A list of Montgomery County Earth Month events is available on the My Green Montgomery website. Check back frequently as more events are added.
