“I want to thank the Council approving a budget that balances the many conflicting County interests and resources and is consistent with the recommendations I submitted in March.
“This budget continues our work to put the County’s fiscal house in order and align spending with the available resources in a more sustainable way. The strategic increases provide additional resources for more Police, for education, and for programs for the most vulnerable among us. They also provide some new resources for programs for seniors and at-risk youth. Unfortunately, over the past five years we have had to reduce spending in these areas. This budget begins the process of restoring resources in these critical areas.
“Unfortunately, challenges still remain due to decisions at the State level that shift many millions of dollars in costs to the County.
“Overall, I believe this budget better prepares us to meet those challenges – and positions the County to move forward in a number of critical areas as the economy continues to improve.”
