Police Investigating Double Homicide In North Woodside

The Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division - Homicide/Sex Section is investigating the double homicide that occurred early this morning in the North Woodside community of Silver Spring.

At 3:15 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a call from a female who stated she had just killed two people inside a home in the 9000 block of Louis Street. When officers from the 3rd District arrived at the home, a middle-aged woman met them at the door. Officers went into the home and found two victims. Preliminary investigation revealed that both victims had apparently been stabbed. The bodies were found on the first floor of the home. A motive for the murders is still under investigation.

The victims have been identified as Gloria Jean Hendershot, age 56, and her grandson, Tre Hendershot, age 11, both of the 9000 block of Louis Street. Their bodies have been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore to determine exact cause and manner of death.

Gayle Elizabeth Hariston, age 59, a roommate in the home, was placed under arrest and has been charged with two counts of First-degree Murder. She has been remanded to the Montgomery County Detention Center on a no-bond status.
