Update:  Mother Charged for Murder of Two-Year-Old

Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex detectives have made an arrest in the homicide of a child that occurred on November 27, 2007, in the Bel Pre Corridor.

Today, Ruth Petra Sendejas, age 18, of the 3600 block of Bel Pre Road in Silver Spring, was charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old son Leonardo Giovanni Sendejas.

At the time of the incident, Ruth Sendejas alleged that she had been the victim of a home invasion robbery. When the boy was found unresponsive in his crib, she claimed that she had seen two unknown suspects try to harm her son during the robbery. The boy was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Through the course of the investigation it was learned that a home invasion robbery had not taken place and Ruth Sendejas was the person responsible for her son’s death. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation.

Ruth Sendejas is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.
