This morning at approximately 9:44 a.m., 3rd District officers from Montgomery County Police assisted Howard County Police officers, and other law enforcement agencies in a pursuit of three armed male bank robbery suspects which began in Howard County, went through Anne Arundel County, and then entered Montgomery County. The incident originated at approximately 9:15 a.m. in Howard County with the robbery of the Bank of America located in the 6300 block of Ten Oaks Road in Clarksville.

Montgomery County Police officers joined the pursuit when the suspects entered Montgomery County. The suspects bailed out of their vehicle in the area of Greencastle Road and Angelton Court in Burtonsville and fled on foot. There was an exchange of gunfire between police and at least one of the suspects, involving Howard County Police, Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police. One suspect was shot, and was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. It has not yet been confirmed which agency’s round(s) struck and killed the suspect. Two suspects remained at large until approximately 4:00. A male is currently being interviewed by police and is believed to be one of the two outstanding suspects involved in this incident. The grid search that was conducted has been suspended as of 4:00 p.m. because the other outstanding suspect is no longer believed to be in the area. There is not a confirmed description of the one remaining suspect.

Law Enforcement agencies investigating include Montgomery County Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Howard County Police, Prince George’s County Police, Maryland-National Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division, Maryland State Police, and the FBI.

The Montgomery County Police Emergency Communications Center initiated a reverse 911 call system to notify residents in the area of current information regarding the incident. Area schools in the vicinity of the incident were notified and six schools initiated a code blue. Information is being posted on both the Montgomery County and Montgomery County Police websites.

Roads in the vicinity of Greencastle Road and Route 29 (Columbia Pike) are being restricted to use by residents only. Vehicles in the vicinity are being stopped and searched.

Police encourage residents not to open their doors to strangers, pick up hitch hikers, and to call 9-1-1 to report a suspicious person or situation that may be related to the wanted suspects.
