| Today at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Montgomery County Police Department kicked off “Operation Safe Streets”, a new traffic safety initiative utilizing corridor enforcement. Approximately 35 traffic officers from all six police Districts came together to conduct traffic and pedestrian enforcement along Georgia Avenue between the District line and Connecticut Avenue until 2:00 p.m. The initiative began with a media conference to explain the new program. Between 10:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. all of the officers were at their enforcement posts along Georgia Avenue.
Citations and Warnings Issued:
156 Traffic Citations - for a variety of traffic violations to include speeding and aggressive driving behaviors.
69 Written Warnings – to drivers for a variety of violations.
179 Written Warnings – to pedestrians who failed to obey the pedestrian laws.
The next traffic enforcements will be conducted in High Incident Areas (HIA’s) on Wednesday, May 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at: Veirs Mill Road from Atlantic Avenue to Randolph Road Old Georgetown Road and Commerce Street Wisconsin Avenue and Bethesda Avenue
