UPDATE: Curtis Lopez Held on No Bond Status

On October 13, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Curtis Maurice Lopez, 45 years old, was taken into custody in Charlotte, North Carolina on the strength of a Maryland arrest warrant related to the homicide of Jane McQuain. Lopez was the husband of Jane McQuain and the step-father of William McQuain. On November 2, Curtis Lopez was transported from Charlotte, North Carolina to the MontgomeryCountyDetentionCenter and charged with first- degree murder for the homicide of Jane McQuain. Today, a bond review hearing was held in Rockville District Court and McQuain continues to be held on a no bond status. Lopez’ next court appearance will be on December 2.

It was on October 12 at approximately 8:25 p.m. that 5th District detectives responded to an apartment in the 13100 block of Briarcliff Terrace in Germantown as part of a missing person investigation. Earlier on October 12, a friend of Jane McQuain had reported to police that he had not been able to contact her and was concerned for her welfare. Upon arriving, officers made entry into the apartment and discovered Jane McQuain deceased in her bedroom. There was evidence of trauma to her body. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that Jane McQuain was the victim of homicide and that the manner of her death was blunt force trauma and stab wounds. Jane McQuain’s 11-year-old son, William McQuain, was missing from the apartment.

On October 18 at approximately 9:11 a.m., the body of William McQuain was located in a wooded area off of Clarksburg Road about a quarter mile west of Frederick Road in Clarksburg, MD. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled that William McQuain was the victim of homicide and that the manner of his death was blunt force trauma to the head. Charges relating to the homicide of William McQuain are forthcoming.
