| Detectives from the Silver Spring Investigative Section are investigating a mass theft incident that occurred at a 7-Eleven store in Silver Spring.
On November 19, 2011 at approximately 11:23 p.m., Silver Spring officers responded to the 7-Eleven store located at 12257 Tech Road for the report of a mass theft. Preliminary investigation revealed that approximately 50 teens and young adults simultaneously entered the 7-Eleven and stole items, to include snacks and drinks.
As officers arrived to the 7-Eleven, numerous subjects were observed congregating in surrounding parking lots and on side streets. The subjects began to leave the area upon seeing police respond to the store. Officers were able to stop a group of six individuals, ranging in age from 16 to 18, in the area of Tech Road and Broadbirch Drive. Each of the suspects had items from the 7-Eleven and none could provide a receipt for the items. The suspects’ identifying information was collected by police for further investigation.
Detectives are exploring the possibility that the suspects in this incident had been attending a birthday party in the area.
