Public Meeting June 17: SHA MD28-MD198 Project Planning Study Workshop

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will host an Information Workshop on the MD28 - MD198 Project Planning Study, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the James Blake High School cafeteria, 300 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, MD 20905.

The project impacting MD28 (Norbeck Road) and MD198 (Spencerville/Sandy Spring Road) is funded for planning only. It is not funded for design/engineering, right-of-way acquisition, or construction. Project limits are from MD97 (Georgia Avenue) to I-95 in Prince Georges County.

After being put on hold in November, 2009, the project was re-initiated in 2013. There were previous public workshops held in 2002 and 2008. The March, 2014 Montgomery County Priorities letter references improvements along this corridor only to the segment between Georgia Avenue and Layhill Road (MD 182).

The June 17 workshop will give an overview of project history, outline purpose and need and provide an opportunity for public input. SHA is currently updating crash data and traffic analyses along the corridor. The scope of the project is to

*Accommodate travel in a safe and efficient manner along the MD28-MD198 Corridor between MD97 and the US 29/I-95 Corridor.

*Provide relief to present and future traffic congestion and improve traffic operations.

*Preserve quality of life relative to localized traffic congestion along the corridor.
