Afterthoughs about the Mascot Challenge!

Feeling confident as the 11th seed against Louie from the Bowie Baysox, I began the competition strong and with a taste for victory.  I was highly prepared for the tournament, having spent the past year in an intense training program regimented by the Notre Dame Leprechaun, the Hokey Bird and Nittany Lion. The past year of preparation helped me feel highly prepared and ready to play!

Although keenly focused and geared for a win, the primary goal was to play fairly, have a good time, and do the best I could. Going head to head against the likes of Slapshot from Washington Capitals, Uncle Slam from the Potomac Nationals and home court favorite Battlin’ Baron from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School was somewhat intimidating.  Even though this was a fierce competition, this was my chance to play on television and represent the Recreation Department. Only my very best would do.
Taking an easy lead and pounding the court with spirited determination, I had the eye on victory when Louie took a quick and unpredictable right. It was only a second of distraction but Louie stole the ball and he was off like a speeding comet. After a heated competition and extremely grueling game the game ended with a score of Louie 2 – T-Recs 0.  I played well, I played hard and I represented MCRD with honor, dignity and nonsense. After all, that is really what it is all about isn't it?
