Active Montgomery! Kicks Off This Saturday!

By Melissa Chotiner, Media Relations Manager for Montgomery Parks

Be Active Montgomery!

This Saturday, June 8, Montgomery Parks is serving as the host site for the county’s inaugural Be Active Montgomery! . It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at South Germantown Recreational Park, one of our biggest parks, and will feature lots of free games and activities, including

The event kicks off Montgomery County’s new Be Active Montgomery! campaign to encourage residents to lead healthy, active lifestyles. This is an important goal and one Montgomery Parks has at the center of its mission. With such a comprehensive park system, residents really don’t have to go far, spend a lot of money, or even plan very hard to find ways to be active. There are 418 parks in our system, so it’s easy to find a place to get outdoors. We have over 200 miles of trails (paved and natural surface) for hiking, biking, riding and running. We have hundreds of tennis courts, basketball courts and athletic fields. There are also opportunities for more organized / structured exercise / fitness activities at our ice rinks, tennis centers, and boating facilities. You can find and search for ways to get active in our parks at www.MontgomeryParks.org. If you want to just go out in your backyard, the county has that covered too with a new summer calendar of ideas as simple as playing tag, jumping rope or dribbling a ball.

The point is that there’s really no excuse not to get out this summer and be active. We are looking forward to the launch of the campaign this weekend, and we hope you’ll take time to join us. You can find out more about the initiative and a host of ways to be active on the county’s Be Active Montgomery! website.
