As hard as we try...I know we aren't perfect. We work hard to serve and we value and appreciate all of our customers. We received this feedback from a customer who took the time to let us know that we disappointed him. Please see my response and comments below...
Dear Recreation Dept.
I would appreciate if you could bring this complaint to the appropriate management personnel.
I find it very strange that the County recreation department has such contempt for the citizens in this county. It does not give
the County government a very good name.
This conclusion is based on my experience tonight, which is not a unique instance.
Just now, on a cold night, I dragged myself out of the house to get some much needed exercise. I decided to go to the Aquatic Center. Just to be safe, I called in advance (no one picks up the phone: that also is typical). Oh well. I check the web site ... well, according to the schedule they're open. No indications there that anything special is going on. I get in the car, drive all the way there, wait at the endless red turn lights on Rockville Pike. I walk up to the desk, and am told the Center is closed because of a Special Event. Not just the pool is closed, but even the exercise room. No explanation how this 'special event' needs to crowd out the public altogether. One thing is very clear: the people who merely live in this County are very far from being 'special.' That is why they can be treated like, well, you fill in the blank.
If we lived in a small village, this might be excusable. In a County of a million people, it is not.
I would like an explanation, and a description of how you are going to change procedures.
Thank you for reading and responding to the T-Recs blog. I am sorry to hear about your bad experience it was a cold weekend and obviously very miserable to fight the traffic only to be turned away from the pool.
After receiving your e-mail the aquatic staff reviewed the website and the open swim calendar. The staff made a revision to the schedule to make the open swim hours and times clearer to hopefully avoid any further conflicts. The pool and the weight room are not opened to the public on Sunday evenings. There is an on-going class on Sunday evening which is why the pool was not opened for open swim. I apologize that you were informed that it was special event.
This is the link to the website information which lists the adult swim hours.
Thank you for your time in sending the e-mail. We do value our customers and want you to use the swimming pools during open swim time! The last thing we intended was to leave you out in the cold!
