The World of Montgomery Festival celebrates the diverse cultural heritages that play an active role in the lives of area residents. The festival showcases this rich diversity through food, music, dance, traditional arts and hands-on projects for children and families. The exhibits include culturally authentic arts demonstrations and activities aimed at promoting international and multi-cultural awareness.
Explore the World in your Backyard - This year’s festival focuses on the “Essentials of Life” focusing on food, water, culture and community service – the essential resources and common bonds we share across communities globally. Montgomery County is a modern-day global village, with one third of the population born outside of the United States. The diversity of the DC area enriches the lives of our children and helps them to become a successful 21st global citizen. The World of Montgomery Festival celebrates this stunning diversity and invites you and your family to learn more about the many wonderful cultures that surround us every day.
Delicious Global Kitchen and Hands-on Family Water Activities:
The Global Kitchen at the World of Montgomery Festival will feature international chef demonstrations and food sampling; a global spice market showing foods in a raw state and ground for use; and an exhibit of international cooking tools.
o Other activities and exhibits include hands on cooking activities for children, spice smelling guessing games, and a spice map highlighting where the spices originated and are now cultivated.
Water, the one item that is essential to life on earth and every person, will be used to educate on the differences in lifestyles different nations experience. The activities and demonstrations will also teach conservation.
o A sampling of activities include: learning how to build a homemade water pump and rain barrel, a kinetic water run teaching water conservation, watershed demonstrations, and an on-site 7’ water pipe that can be explored with an electronic robot.
