The contract for the renovation of the Gaithersburg Library has been awarded to Henley Construction Company, Inc. of Gaithersburg. Information about the award has been posted on the websites of the County’s Department of General Services (DGS) and Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL).
Following the creation of a schedule and shop drawings for the demolition plans and the submission of other construction paperwork to the County for review and approval, the project is slated to begin in mid-December. Total time for completion is expected to be 18 months.
The major renovation project will expand the 33,700 square-foot structure by adding 22,200 square feet on the main level along the front, back, and sides and 7,900 square feet on a partial second floor that will hold the meeting rooms, mechanical rooms, storage and a satellite office of the Gilchrist Center.
According to the company’s website, Henley Construction Company, Inc. has an impressive portfolio featuring numerous schools, office buildings, complexes, nursing homes, warehouses, libraries and restaurants. The company was founded in 1964 and was the construction contractor for the original Gaithersburg Library.
