Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) celebrates the Lunar New Year with a variety of free programs in February marking the New Year 4709. Lunar New Year, which starts with the new moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later, began on January 23.

Programs will be held according to the following schedule:

Saturday, February 4, 1 p.m. Potomac Library, 10101 Glenolden Dr.
Kuang Chinese School will present traditional Chinese Lion Dance, storytelling and paper cutting demonstrations. Call 240-777-0690.

Saturday, February 4, 2 p.m., Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd.
Li Ming Chinese School will perform traditional Chinese Lion Dance, Chinese arts, martial arts and Chinese yo-yo demonstrations. Call 240-777-0110.

Saturday, February 11, 11 a.m., Silver Spring Library, 8901 Colesville Rd.
Author and Storyteller, Linda Fang presents “Tales of Ancient China and the Origins of Chinese New Year Traditions.” Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter. Call 240-773-9420.

Saturday, February 11, 2 p.m., Quince Orchard Library, 15831 Quince Orchard Rd., Gaithersburg.
