County Report This Week, the weekly half-hour cable news show produced by the Montgomery County Office of Public Information Office’s cable programming section has just received a 2013 Hometown Media Award by the Alliance for Community Media. The national award recognizes the County’s overall excellence in public, educational and governmental access programming.

The award-winning show was among more than 800 entries from across the country. The Hometown Awards recognize the best community media programming, and include student, independent producer and access center professional categories.
Show #140, produced on December 20, 2012, features news segments about a transportation summit, a pedestrian safety anniversary, a senior summit, and a package from the County’s weekly Montgomery al Dia Spanish language show with a year in review by Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown. Other topics include updates on police and transportation issues, a “pet of the week” and packages on open government (provided by Montgomery Community Media), a Rockville historic building tax credit (provided by Rockville Cable Channel 11), a Montgomery College program (provided by Montgomery College), Greencastle Elementary School Holiday dinner (provided by Montgomery County Public Schools), and news about sober ride and Christmas tree recycling. County Report This Week was launched by the Office of Public Information in April 2010 in order to provide County news highlights to residents on a weekly basis. The show includes County Executive and County Council reports, along with regular contributions from the other Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access channels – Montgomery Community Media, Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, and cities of Rockville and Takoma Park. The show airs on County Cable Montgomery (Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN cable, and Channel 30 on Verizon). It is also available to watch on demand and is available on YouTube in English and Spanish.
The Public Information Office production staff includes cable manager Tracy O’Connor, anchor Lorna Virgili, producer Michael Bruen, videographer Andre Dunston, and video editor Joelle Modderman. County Council staff members who contribute to the show include co-anchor Susan Kenedy, videographer Mike Springirth, and video editor Loren Olson.
