|County Economic Development Launches Online, Interactive Farmers Market Map; From Annuals to Leeks and Peaches to Tomatoes – Find Something for Everyone at Local Farmers Markets|
To make it even easier to find locally grown products, the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED) recently added an interactive map on its website of all 22 farmers markets in the County.
“The County’s agricultural sector remains a vital contributor to our local economy, contributing $243 million annually,” said Steve Silverman, director, Montgomery County Department of Economic Development. “More than 93,000 acres of land in the County is designated as Agricultural Reserve. Shopping at farmers markets is a fun and healthy way to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and more and support this historic and still thriving part of the County’s business community.”
Montgomery County is home to more than 500 farms, including 8,000 horses on horse farms; 78 fruit, vegetable, nut, flower and Christmas tree farms; and 80 cattle farms with more than 2,400 cows.
A printable brochure of all County farmers markets is also available on the farmers market page of the DED website.
For more information about local farmers markets, call 301-590-2823. Farmers interested in participating in one or more of the markets can call 301-590-2810 for more information.
