Good morning.
- Let me start by congratulating Patriot Realty, Foulger-Pratt Development and Safeway as pioneers in Wheaton’s redevelopment.
- This project exemplifies transit-oriented, smart-growth development, encompassing mixed-use, open space, quality design, and environmentally friendly buildings.
- This project maximizes density allowed for the site and is just steps from the Wheaton metro station – now that’s what I call smart-growth.
- That’s also why the County was proud to contribute $5 million in mezzanine financing to help make this important project a reality.
- It brings Safeway back to Wheaton and will provide nearly 500 high-quality, high-design rental units ideal for young professionals right here in the heart of Wheaton.
- This is the first mixed use development project in Wheaton and sets the stage for others to follow; the success of this venture will demonstrate that Wheaton is indeed a desirable address and a smart market for development.
- Congratulations again to the development team and everyone from the public and private sector that helped get us to this great day.
- This is just the beginning of many greatthings to come in Wheaton.
