“The government of Montgomery County values our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our local economy and community day in and day out.
“In particular, I want to recognize and celebrate the County’s 33,000 businesses as we embark on ‘Small Business Saturday,’ November 30, 2013.
“Ninety-six percent of all County businesses have 49 or fewer employees and two-thirds have five or fewer employees. Nationally, 54 percent of all sales, 55 percent of all jobs and 66 percent of all net new jobs come from 23 million small businesses since the 1970s. Montgomery County supports our local small businesses that create jobs, boost our economy and preserve and diversify our neighborhoods.
“For these reasons and more, I join with the many advocacy groups and public and private organizations across the country and throughout Montgomery County in endorsing the Saturday after Thanksgiving as ‘Small Business Saturday’ in Montgomery County.
“I encourage the residents of our community and communities across the country to support small businesses and merchants on this day and throughout the year.”
