How to recycle/dispose of lumber / wood / demolition debris

Curbside collection: No
County facilities accepting lumber / wood / demolition debris:
* Beauty Spot: Poolesville
* Shady Grove Processing Facility & Transfer Station

If your material is in good, reusable condition:

A good test of quality is to ask yourself whether you would give the material to a friend. If your items pass this "test," consider bringing them to our "Don't Dump, Donate" program for reuse. Pieces of lumber and wood must be at least 4 feet long, and be free of nails and screws.

If the material is not reusable:

Is the material from your home?

  • We accept residential trash loads up to 499 pounds, with no charge, at the Public Unloading Area of the Shady Grove Transfer Station and at our Beauty Spots.
  • Trash loads over 499 pounds must be taken to the Transfer Station via the Truck Entrance on Shady Grove Road.
  • Please note that all trucks delivering trash to the Transfer Station must use the Truck Entrance.

Is the material from your workplace?

  • All commercial trash must be brought to the Shady Grove Transfer Station's Truck Entrance.
