How to recycle/dispose of oil, cooking / vegetable

Curbside collection: No
County facilities accepting oil, cooking / vegetable:
* Shady Grove Processing Facility & Transfer Station

Residents may bring up to 5 gallons of cooking or vegetable oil to the Shady Grove Transfer Station and Processing Facility.

  • Go to the Household Hazardous Waste section of the Public Unloading Area.
  • Hand your cooking oil or vegetable oil to one of the attendants.

So that the oil may be recycled, please do not mix it with any other fluids.

Can I set my cooking oil out for curbside trash collection?

Please do not set cooking oil out with your curbside trash items. This prevents oil leaks and spills before and while your trash is collected.

What do I do with plastic cooking or vegetable oil bottles?

We accept all plastic bottles. You may put these into your recycling collection at home. They are also accepted at the Transfer Station.

What happens to the oil accepted at the Transfer Station?

The oil is reused. Some of it is turned into animal feed. And, some of it is turned into biodiesel fuel. Learn more about biodiesel.
