Drainage project will cause short term closure of Annapolis Rock Road

The Division of Highway Services announces an upcoming drainage improvement project in the eastern Damascus/upper north portion of the county, near the Howard County line. The culvert replacement will require a short term closure of Annapolis Rock Road at the creek, near the PEPCO power transmission lines.

The culvert has eroded to the point that replacement is necessary. MCDOT views these replacements as urgent, therefore, work will commence shortly. The culvert replacement process involves approval from both the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Army Corps of Engineers due to the sensitive nature of the pristine wetlands encompassing the area. The duration of the closure will be limited to approximately two weeks. In the interest of public safety, MCDOT will move quickly to replace the culvert.

The culvert replacement is scheduled to start near the end of August. Variable message signs have been placed at the closure points along Annapolis Rock Road. The message boards will supply you with closure information as well as reopening information as the project proceeds. Please follow the detour signs for alternate routes.

We will make every effort to expedite the work to facilitate an accelerated completion with the least amount of inconvenience. If you should have any questions or comments feel free to contact Mr. Lacy Hanna, MCDOT Project Manager, at 240-876-5539.
