Several new road maintenance projects by the Division of Highway Services are beginning in local subdivisions. The warmer spring temperatures are allowing Highway to begin patching and paving roadway work throughout the county.
Paving projects, in which crews will resurface the local streets with hot mix asphalt:
* Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg West will be resurfaced in late April. The project should be completed within approximately five weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Permanent patching projects, in which crews make structural, permanent patches to the road, a cost effective interim solution to maintain roadway structural integrity based upon current funding allocations:
* Peach Tree Road in the Poolesville service area will receive repairs in early April. The project should be completed within approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. This project will be followed by resurfacing later this construction season.
Pavement preservation projects, in which crews will be undertaking pavement preservation work. This will entail full depth patching of pavement deteriorations, crack sealing, and application of a micro resurfacing material.
* Watch for a future announcement of upcoming projects.
Concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk repairs, in which crews will be replacing defection sections of curbs or sidewalks to ensure structural integrity, proper drainage, and avoidance of tripping hazards. Under this operation, residents will be able to take advantage of discounts for concrete work under the driveway apron and lead walk repair program. Upcoming projects include:
* Kensington Heights in the Silver Spring service area will receive the above refurbishments continuing in early April. The project should be completed within approximately eight weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
