Forest Glen neighborhood refurbishment preserves County's transportation infrastructure

The Forest Glen community is the latest neighborhood to benefit from MCDOT’s Residential Road Rehabilitation program.  MCDOT responded to the County Executive’s call for a more systematic approach to maintaining our transportation infrastructure by rating the condition of every road.  Forest Glen had many streets rated very poor.  This project involved 17 lane miles of concrete and asphalt work.  It included a tree protection plan and the option for residents to make concrete repairs to private areas at reduced cost.

The Department of Environmental Protection coordinated with MCDOT to also make improvements in the area.  Through DEP’s Green Streets initiative, localized stormwater management features were incorporated into the right-of-way or resident’s property. These included rain gardens, bioretention gardens, and grass bioswales that channel runoff from paved surfaces to permeable soils, gravel, and plants.  This reduces pollution, improving stream water quality.
