| A new public parking garage has opened in downtown Silver Spring. It’s located below the Galaxy Apartments being constructed on 13th Street. The garage is part of a public-private partnership that created a 195-unit apartment building. A former County public parking lot is part of an assemblage of land on which the project is located. The project includes both an underground private garage with 208 private spaces for Galaxy residents and a public garage owned and operated by the County with 160 public parking spaces.
The Galaxy Apartments were developed by RST Development in collaboration with the County’s Housing Opportunities Commission, the Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
Parking rates at the new public garage will be 75 cents an hour for short-term parking and 60 cents an hour for long-term parking of more than four hours. You may make payment by the hour at automated pay by spaces machines or you may use a monthly Parking Convenience Sticker (also known as the PCS Permit).
