Leggett Seeks Applicants for Solid Waste Advisory Committee |
County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six vacancies on the Solid Waste Advisory Committee. Four incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
The 15-member committee consists of citizens-at-large, business representatives, and professional solid waste/recycling industry representatives who provide advice to the Department of Public Works and Transportation on issues pertaining to solid waste/recycling management in the County. This includes evaluating the impacts from the Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan and the effects of solid waste/recycling programs on citizens, institutions, businesses, multi-family properties, and industry. SWAC also recommends public education programs, as well as State and local legislation necessary to accomplish effective solid waste/recycling management.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation. In 2007, eight full Committee meetings are scheduled in Rockville, usually the first Tuesday evening of the month. Members are also expected to actively participate on one or more subcommittees.
Applicants should write by October 19 to County Executive Isiah Leggett at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville, MD 20850 or send an e-mail to countyexecutive.boards@montgomerycountymd.gov. A resume, including work and home phone numbers, should be enclosed. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of this Committee are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended.
Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
