County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill 10 vacancies on the Commission on Aging. Five incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment. Applicants must be County residents. Seniors and non-seniors are encouraged to apply; please indicate the position for which you are applying. For purposes of the Commission on Aging, “senior” is defined as age 60 or older.
Serving as an advocate on behalf of older persons in the County, the Commission advises the County Executive, the County Council and various Montgomery County Departments on the concerns and needs of seniors.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 401 Hungerford Drive in Rockville, First Floor Conference Room, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Commission members are expected to serve on a committee of the Commission as well. Each committee meets once a month, during the day.
Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. An application, consisting of a brief cover letter and resume, should be sent by mail to County Executive Isiah Leggett, 101 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor, Rockville, MD 20850, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Home and employment addresses, as well as contact phone numbers and email addresses should be included. If appropriate, applicants should indicate the position for which they are applying. The deadline for application is January 4, 2013.
Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
